KIT207 Self Study 3 - Devlog

Update on the Unity project for the KIT207 portfolio. Have made a terrain object using the terrain toolbox in Unity. I started making a custom terrain and had it looking rather nice. However, I accidentally saved over my work and as such I ended up using a default height map that was included in the unity terrain sample pack (https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/package/145808). I also painted multiple types of trees, grass and different textures onto the terrain to give it the feeling of being able to traverse into different biomes depending on where you are on the map (such as grass, snow, rock). If given more time to create a larger map, then other biomes such as desert sand, swamp, etc. can be explored as well.

All of these textures came from the unity terrain sample pack (https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/package/145808)while the low poly trees came from (https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/environments/lowpoly-environment-nature...). The styles between the trees and everything else don't match up quite as well as I might of liked, so I may change the trees out for a style that matches the scene a little better in a future update.

I used the project builder to model a building in my scene which I based on the house that I live in. It actually came out pretty close to where I live (at least internally). I may decide to put furniture in the house at a later date, however if I do so, it will most likely be with assets from the unity store. I used the same textures as I did on my barrel in a previous project (https://polyhaven.com/a/worn_planks) although I did change the color on the texture a little to make them slightly darker and more wood tone. It came out quite nice, with the floors in particular looking outstanding.

all in all, it was quite a week of practice and I am happy with how the project is shaping up.

(ps. I wanted to upload a gif of my character running through the house I created, however every gif ended up being to large for Itch.io to allow me to show.)
